In the Vampire Chronicles, Anne Rice contends that the queen of the vampires was called Akasha. But in history the mother of vampires seems to be Lilith. Lilith was said to be at first a handmaiden to a babylonian/Sumerian goddess, then later she is said to have been the first woman turned demon. Now she is the embodiment of the strong feminine, both in the vampire pantheon as well as the witch . While vampires are free to worship any diety or none at all, it seems only logical that we would want a historical/mythological figure to connect us as a people. Lilith seems to fit the bill very well.
